WIETZE ADEMA has lived in the Netherlands, Canada, and America.
Born in the Netherlands, his family immigrated to Canada where he became a naturalized Canadian citizen. After graduating from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he obtained U.S. citizenship. In 1987 he received an MFA degree in drawing and painting from Western Michigan University.
